MidCoast Council | Taree

From hardware to hard work.

Location: Taree | Size: 10,000m²

The former Masters home and building store at 2 Biripi Way has been repurposed and completely transformed into a new home for MidCoast Council.

The Yalawanyi Ganya building – an indigenous name for sitting or meeting place – is now a revitalised administration centre which will consolidate more than 400 staff from four separate sites.

The Aspect team in Sydney collaborated with Group GSA, the architects on the 10,000m² project, to design multiple workpoint typologies that will meet the different needs within the Council.

The process involved a full prototyping exercise across 2 locations and resulted in a total of 11 different designs, including general back-to-back and 120° Zurich 5 workpoints, quiet rooms, Harbour focus zones as well as team tables to foster collaboration.

The workspace design includes an outdoor courtyard and open-plan working spaces for the public to sit and meet with staff.

Bringing our staff together to work side-by-side will bring about gradual and continuous improvements to the way we are able to provide services to our community.
— Director of Corporate Services, Steve Embry

Aspect delivered a range of custom-designed, fit-for-purpose furniture solutions to meet the working styles of the Council staff, as well as taking on additional installation work due to the location of the building. Despite the challenging delivery timeline and supply chain issues caused by the pandemic, the project was delivered on time and within budget.
